Georgia DUI Third Offense
It is so important for third-time DUI offenders to contact a qualified DUI defense attorney for representation.
As any lawyer will tell you, the penalties for each additional conviction only get worse. However, there is hope even if you have prior DUI convictions. If you or someone you love has been arrested for a third-offense DUI within a 5-year period, pick up the phone and contact your local DUI defense attorney. For those that live in Georgia, you’ll want to contact The Law Office of Larry Kohn right away. In the meantime, please read the following penalties that you could face upon conviction, and be sure to discuss any questions you may have with your attorney.
The fines are quite expensive for a third offense DUI. You can expect to pay in the range of $1,000 all the way up to $5,000. As is the case with first-time and second-time DUI offenders, this does not include any statutory surcharges.
As far as jail is concerned, you’ll have to spend at least 15 days behind bars. However, the judge may sentence you to spend anywhere from 120 days to 12 months in jail. Just like first-time and second-time offenders, you will be placed on probation for 12 months.
In cases where there is a third offense DUI within a 5-year period, the state will revoke your license for 5 years. However, after a waiting period of 2 years, you can apply to have your license reinstated if you attend alcohol courses and receive counseling and assessment. As is the case with second-time offenders, you will also be required to have an ignition interlock device installed in your vehicle for 6 months.
During the time your license is revoked, you must surrender your license plates. Once you have completed the requirements, you will be issued new plates.
As if all of that is not enough, your photo, name and arrest information will be published in your local paper at your cost of $25.
Penalties like these are devastating for you and your family,
so make sure you do everything you can to avoid conviction by hiring The Law Office of Larry Kohn
